HOW TO IMPORT A SCENE (PROJECT)

In the Flow Architect Studio 3D program, there is an option that imports data to a map. You can import a scene in the Wavefront obj file format. Objects form the Wavefront obj format are saved to the models/import folder in the project and their instances are added to the map as models.

In order to import a scene:

  • In the 3D modeling program that you are using, rotate the scene so that the Z+ axis points up. Scale the scene so one unit is 1cm. If You can not do these operations in another program, you can do them later in Flow Architect Studio 3D. After carrying out the transformations, save the changes to your scene int the Wavefront obj format.

  • Start Flow Architect Studio 3D. Open the project that you want to import the scene to or create a new project.

  • Choose the Import map form OBJ format option from the File menu. Choose the Wavefront obj file and wait while the data is being imported. After the operation is completed, the imported scene will show. The models that you see all have the default material.

  • In order to change the model material select the model and then double click with the right mouse button on a texture or a material on the Materials tab on the right side of the program. If a model has more than one mesh, you can select its individual meshes by clicking the mesh you want to select. You can choose a material for a selected mesh by double clicking with left mouse button on the texture or material you want to use. In order to add textures or materials to the Materials tab, use the Add texture or Add material option that you can find on the Materials tab.

NOTE:

  • Keep the limitations connected with performance in mind. Don’t use high-poly models. Imported models should have the lowest possible triangle count that results in good quality.

  • Imported objects must have texture coordinates. Texture coordinates are needed for bump mapping to work correctly.
